History
Moxibustion was invented approximately 3,000 years ago in the northern regions of ancient China, and was brought to Japan by envoys to the Sui and Tang Dynasties. Moxibustion was introduced to Japan along with the Ritsuryo system and Buddhism, and became a new trend during the Edo period as the "moxibustion method brought back by Kobo Daishi." It has been passed down as the moxibustion of Kobo. In addition, there are other types of "family tradition moxibustion" such as Muryoji moxibustion and Yotsugi moxibustion, and these moxibustion methods are called pustu moxibustion. As the Oku-no-Hosomichi says, "Moxibustion is placed in Sanri", it can be used to soothe tired feet from the journey, As it says in Tsurezuregusa, "People over the age of 40 can reduce high blood pressure by administering moxibustion to Sanri." The practice of moxibustion was transmitted to the common people with a strong emphasis on folk medicine.
